How long has your business been operating: Wirez Electrical Pty Ltd came about after I had worked 21 years in a family business, where I ran the electrical division for that time. I later moved on to start my own business Wirez Electrical Pty Ltd.

How long have you been on board with Laser: I joined the Laser Group on the 2nd of November 2010.

Was it a hard decision to change your trading name, and how do you feel about it now / how has it impacted on your business: Yes at first it was hard to digest as I had an emotional connection to Wirez Electrical, but now see the commercial benefits and value of the Laser brand outweigh my initial fears.

How many site-workers do you have now: 12, across two business locations. We had the opportunity to combine forces with Laser Electrical Lismore to use both of our expertise to grow our businesses; this came about from networking at a couple of Laser Seminars.

Do Laser's systems enable you to operate better: LaserPro helps us considerably, especially as we operate on a hosted site. This means that wherever we are, as long as we have an internet connection we can always keep an eye on how the work load is tracking. We find the systems very user friendly which is great for training new people. The operating system allows us to manage a job from the very start through to practical completion very easily and throughout the process you are able to produce reports instantly on the progress of the job, along with the ability to be able to take a snap shot of the whole business at any time, which is fantastic.

How valuable is it to belong to a large national network: Until we joined we didn't have a clue how much the Laser network would help us grow our business. There have been huge amounts of working coming in from other Members, and the support that we get from other Laser Members has been fantastic. The value of the network is a hard one to explain... From referral work to technical advice, we have been able to adapt our business and enter new market sectors with relative ease, simply because of the supportive Laser network. It's great to have the ability to lean on someone else who is going through the same things we all go through in business.

Has joining Laser had a positive impact on your profits? This year we are well ahead of budget, and the LaserPro system has helped us monitor our jobs and jump straight on top of any problematic or underperforming jobs. LaserPro has certainly made it easier to track profitability, so that we can focus on what we do well. In addition, the extra work we get from Laser Group Services and other Laser Members has certainly put our business in a much stronger position.

Was joining Laser the right decision for you: We haven't looked back it was the best decision for us. A combination of a better performing business, increased productivity and profitability, and a huge amount of new friends that we have made - makes joining Laser one of the best business decisions we have made.

Any other comments or advice that you would give to a prospective member: Joining Laser is not only a business decision but also a lifestyle decision whereby you become part of a strong business network and a great friend network. Some prospective Members might worry about their business location, but it's only on the paperwork, everyone just knows us as "Laser Electrical" (as opposed to Laser Electrical Castle Hill).

How long have you been on board with Laser: I joined Laser Group in 2011

Was it a hard decision to change your trading name, and how do you feel about it now / how has it impacted on your business: Not really, as the existing client base understands when you sell them the prospect of business improvements. It has worked really well for us! The impact now is greater brand awareness and a much better structured business system. We receive a lot of comments from the public now as in the ACT we have at least 20 Laser Plumbing and Laser Electrical vans driving about.

Do Laser's systems enable you to operate better: Yes, much better. We really didn't have a system in place, which attracted us the most to Laser. Of course we had technician report books and used a small business accounting package; however, tracking jobs and monitoring costs associated with a trade business is difficult. With LaserPro nothing gets missed.

How valuable is it to belong to a large national network: It is much better to be part of a large supportive network. By having a Laser Plumbing business on board in the ACT as well, we have developed a solid relationship with them through common business goals and sharing in the Laser network. The Laser Group National Support Office team are always there to assist and it gives you comfort in knowing that there is support and you're not always going it alone.

Has joining Laser had a positive impact on your profits? We have experienced rapid growth since joining Laser, which has impacted on cash flow; however we are seeing positive growth in income. The Laser system has given us confidence to grow through mentoring and being able to monitor the bottom line more effectively. The networking with Laser Plumbing has created work for us and I haven't met another Member yet that isn't willing to help out if you need to tackle a much bigger job. Of course this enables us to take on bigger and more profitable work in the future.

Was joining Laser the right decision for you: Yes - we haven't looked back!

Any other comments or advice that you would give to a prospective Member: Having a Laser Plumbing Member in my area combined with my Laser Electrical team has been a really beneficial new partnership. I am sure that with the right balance another Laser Electrical Member close by could help boost further expansion of my business too.
